Maureen, thank you for your kind words. I am leaving for the Gulf Coast for about 12 days and will call you upon my return. I have traveled throughout the Caribbean many times and it is a living and breathing nightmare.

I think what you are doing is great - and your mission is so well-stated!

We are the only no-kill animal shelter in Jamaica (one of only two facilities on the island). Our survival has been threatened not only by lack of funds but by the four hurricanes that have hit us in less than three years (the last one being the category 5 Hurricane Dean on August 19th). But, despite the immense difficulties we have faced, we have not only survived, we have accomplished much as well. As soon as we re-stabilize we plan to lobby the Jamaican government (we have already started on hotel chains) for serious reform of the cruelty to animal laws. We are also planning a humane education program in the island's primary schools.

Signs for improvement next year are good. In January we will receive a decent amount of money as one of the two lcharities listed to benefit from an international golf tournament. Two other fundraising events are scheduled for February and March and we also have an online auction planned (items presently being collected). Our need for help at the moment however is serious and we write to ask that you pass the word along to any boards or lists that you think might help us get through this temporary crisis.

More about our animal shelter can be foundon our website. And, my phone number is 1-876-383-8338 if anyone would like to call.

Thanks for caring so much about the world's forgotten animals.
