GIULIANI CRASH and BURN

I read the News, daily, and noted with attentive interest, the article on page 6 captioned:  Rudy faces his day of reckoning .

In mid 2000, at a private Golf Club on Long Island, the iconic Lew Rudin, a gentleman I greatly respected and who epitomized all that is great about New York, introduced me and several others to Rudy Giuliani. I chanced to meet the “Mayor” on several other occasions as well. At the time, Rudy was “somewhat married” to Donna Hanover. I perceived him as frenetic, somewhat gruff, impatient and very glib.

What stood out about him was a certain overconfidence which, I later learned,  was attributable to his female companion, Judi Nathan.

While some in contemporary society may feel it redundant to discuss morals, ethics, a sense of duty, family accountability and integrity – my “Catholic” upbringing and the subsequent value system that I ascribe to, disqualifies me from remaining silent or being “politically correct.”  As the race for the nomination gathers momentum, columnists from our revered Daily News, its competitors and national pundits are blaming Rudy’s agonizing demise on skewed political strategies.

Recently a competitive editorial piece went so far as to vilify Mr. Giuliani in the harshest of terms. We all desire a candidate with political prowess, diplomatic dexterity, honesty, morals, deep family values and leadership ability which  is inclusive of crisis control.               Error in political strategy is but one issue and I know , that I am not alone in measuring the stature of this man racing after the Presidency, by instant recall of his ethical and moral shortcomings.

He treated the mother of his two children (who not surprisingly, do not support him in his presidential bid) in a monstrous manner. While married, he publicly flaunted his twice married mistress and hopefully not the next “First Lady” in public, with his usual arrogance, a complete disregard for family standards and blatant disrespect for the humiliated Hanover and his susceptible children. How will he and the “Princess Bride Judi” posture if granted the highest power in the land? Don’t ask me “fellow Americans”,  I will have fled the country.  Rudy, don’t count on my vote!
